What are healthy pH levels?
Most people have heard the term pH, but know little about the role it plays in the healthy functioning of the human body. Not knowing this information is a big mistake—pH imbalances are responsible for a wide variety of health issues that impact people both psychologically and physically. Luckily, pH levels can be brought into balance with a little research about how they work and the willpower to embark on a lifestyle change that will facilitate equilibrium.
The pH level refers to the hydrogen ion concentration in the human body. In other words, it indicates whether the body is balanced, highly acidic or highly alkaline. PH levels are measured on a scale from 0 to 14, with 7.4 being the optimal balance for optimal human health. When pH levels dip below 7 they are too acidic and when they surpass 8 they are too alkaline. When pH levels are unbalanced the following problems can occur:
- Candida
- Seasonal Allergies
- Anxiety
- Depression
- Excited nervous system
- Fragile bones, nails, skin, teeth and hair
- Increased risk and rate of infections (viral and bacterial)
The problems listed above can be very disturbing, especially when they come in clusters. To avoid unbalanced pH levels and the associated health problems that are listed above, people need to nourish both their bodies and minds.
On the physical side of the spectrum, it is important to avoid foods that contribute to unbalanced pH levels. These include sugars, unhealthy fats, processed food, junk food and white breads and pasta. Conversely, super foods such as lean proteins, veggies, herbs, legumes, whole grains, nuts, and fruits keep the acid and alkaline levels in a harmonious balance.
From the mental vantage point, the balance of pH levels is dependent on emotional health. Negative emotions such as fear, shame, anger, resentment, fear, jealousy and hate all work against the body and create an acidic environment through acid-forming chemical connections, thus leading to many of the health issues listed above. Positive emotions such as love, joy, peace, contentment, etc. create a balanced body with pH levels that are neither too acidic nor too alkaline.
Having balanced pH levels is an important part of maintaining a healthy and fulfilling life with meaningful intimate relationships. When the pH is out of whack, the body suffers, the mind suffers, and relationships suffer. Thus, it is important to engage in healthy eating habits as well as mindfully creating a mental environment filled with positive, life-affirming emotions.
